WHAT TO EXPECT NEXT

Typically, you will receive an expression of interest or rejection within eight weeks. If we believe that a project would be a good fit for our publishing program, we will invite you to submit a full manuscript for consideration. Please note that while we accept simultaneous submissions of proposals, we ask for exclusive review once you have been asked by us to submit the complete manuscript. While your manuscript is under review, you are granting Gallaudet University Press the first right of choice for publication.

If the submitted manuscript meets our expectations, the next step is to have it evaluated by outside reviewers. We aim to adhere to the highest standards of editorial quality, and one of the primary ways we maintain these standards in our publication program is through peer review. We also see the peer review process as a unique opportunity to strengthen a project via constructive feedback and productive conversations among scholars.

If reviewers, along with press staff, recommend publication, the manuscript and accompanying materials will be presented to our faculty editorial board. The board is made up of scholars who represent a broad spectrum of expertise in fields related to deaf people and deafness. The board typically meets twice during the academic year to review projects. If the reviews are favorable and the board approves the project, we will then offer a contract to publish the book.

If you have any questions regarding the submission process, please contact our acquisitions editor at katie.lee@gallaudet.edu.

We look forward to receiving your book proposal.
