From ADVANCE for Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists

Living with Hearing Loss is a comprehensive resource for people who are hard of hearing and those around them to learn more about hearing loss. The revised edition features updated information on how to seek a professional evaluation, hearing loss technology, and tinnitus management. It includes a new list of Internet sites and resources for dealing with hearing loss.

The 177-page book is written by Marcia B. Dugan, a member of the Self Help for Hard of Hearing People (SHHH) Board of Directors. Dugan, who is hearing impaired, is a former president of SHHH.

The reference guide offers practical information on the causes and different types of hearing loss. It includes strategies for dealing with hearing impairment in everyday situations and chapters on speechreading, oral interpreters and assertive communication. A helpful glossary also is provided.

The chapters are short yet informative to make this book a quick and easy read.

Marcia B. Dugan was former president and Board of Trustees member of Hearing Loss Association of America (formerly Self Help for Hard of Hearing People, Inc. [SHHH]) in Rochester, NY.
